Rosso Cova translates to brooding red, referring to the deep dark colour of wine produced from Montepulciano grapes. As a Mediterranean variety, it loves life in McLaren Vale. We fondly call it "Monte" for short as we prefer a mouthful of wine to one of syllables.
And what a mouthful this is: plump, juicy Boysenberry fruit, big Chewy Tannins and a dash of Oregano thrown in. Begs for a big bowl of fat pasta with braised meat. Get your fork out!

"The evocative label says it all. Crack open a bottle with your favourite pasta and enjoy. This McLaren Vale Monte is perfect for it. Rossa Cova translates to brooding red, I am assured, and that certainly applies to the deep red colour, though the wine itself is more expressive and exhilarating than brooding. Again, no matter. Montepulciano is obviously at home in McLaren Vale. The wine is bright and intense with concentrated flavours. Tobacco leaf notes, red and black fruits, spices, mulberries, saturated flavours. A wine of focus, there is a fine line of acidity running the full journey, through to a firm finish with slightly chunky tannins. Delicious stuff. "

"It's brightly fruited and fragrant on the nose showing dark plum, mulberry, olive, almond and floral aromas, followed by a medium-full-bodied palate displaying juicy fruit intensity together with fine tannins, finishing lingering and elegant. At its best: now to 2029.”

"This is a variety that is finding a home in McLaren Vale. Has a lift of savoury blue fruits with a trace of vibrant red fruit on the nose. The palate is generous but medium bodied. There’s a spicy character that complements the fruity qualities and the tannins are slightly grainy adding to the textural feel in the mouth. A great wine for pasta."

“Firm and meaty and savoury, I like the structural latticework here. Good tannins. The fruit, too, is moreish with a verdant lick. The direction the style is heading is righteous and I look forward to future renditions. This vintage makes for good drinking, and not necessarily unattractive with the right food. Tobacco leaf, garden herb, amaro and pithy cherry accents drive long. A rustic charm."
